"grassroots happy hour" (final)Posted by hugo poon (hong kong, Hong Kong) on 17 January 2009 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio. "See who's winning, who's winning!" This man kept crying rather arrogantly. Yes, he "won" eventually, but a little inconsistent with his confident words were his voice that was tense and his move that's indecisive. On the contrary, the "loser" remained so calm and swift (you can see his left hand)... Hot or cold, wet or dry, nothing could stop these people from coming and have fun... A busy street corner in the daytime, an exciting "battlefield" in the evening. Managed to find a narrow gap between two spectators to get this shot and that of yesterday. Centre Street, Sai Ying Pun, Hong Kong This is a documentary series of the places and streets I'm passing by everyday... Somehow I feel lucky to have found (or been found by) 'photography', without which I would not have kept that "sense of wonder" of the child or the traveler, and this daily journey to and from office would not have been such enjoyable... It begins here: http://hugopoon.aminus3.com/image/2009-01-03.html I do not regard myself as a photographer. I'm merely a guy who enjoys capturing all the memorable scenes that I encounter in my everyday life. Perhaps, it's like a traveller hoping to record his memorable journey, but in my case, it's the journey of my life ... If I can record my encounters in such a way that they leave an image on the mind of myself and other viewers, it's a tremendous joy and some accomplishment...
