a store of yesterday... (viii)

Posted by hugo poon (hong kong, Hong Kong) on 29 January 2011 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

"Leung (H)ei (K)ee Store"

Here in this little messy store, generations of schoolchildren have got what they want. Potato chip, candies, soft drinks... Junk food? Yes, but all so yummy! And, buying them, enjoying them, finishing them up in time, leaving no trace that could let mother find out... Just wonderful!!! I love these days!:-)

PS. I'll be taking a short break... So, wish you all a beautiful weekend and a great week!

I do not regard myself as a photographer. I'm an ordinary man but extraordinarily obsessed with capturing all the memorable scenes that I encounter in my everyday life. It's like an excited traveller craving to record his memorable journey in a memorable way, but in my case, it's the journey of my life ... If I can record my encounters in such a way that they leave an image on the mind of myself and other viewers, it's a tremendous joy and some accomplishment...
In terms of photography, I'm trying to preserve the moments as my eyes see "something" and my heart feels it too. As such, I seldom feel interested in planned, arranged or manipulated photographs...

Reminds me so strongly of my own days at school and the tuck shops we rushed to during the recess! A heartbreaking image Hugo, with a fabulous POV and perspective! Your chosen tones make it all the more poignant! As always, your work is so rich in detail despite the low light conditions and I am so amazed by that, my friend:) Absolutely fabulous!

@Pavan Kaul: So glad to know I'm not the only one! Thank you my friend! Regarding the POV, I actually got this shot out the window of the upper deck of a bus... really delighted that I was decisive enough and the image came out O.K.!:-)

Old shop getting less day by day... Is good to capture more photos before there all disappear. Nice series from you on all the old buildings in HK. Keep up the good works and shoot more of these old buildings. Me too like to record those old buildings in my city.

Lovely angle here. Yes, we all have had some little shop near our schools where we'd scoop a candy or some junk leaving no traces, as you said! Brings out the memories so well.

Hoping to see you back soon!

Youngs seem to appreciate this old store and the old man and it's a pleasure to look at... good choice of tonality to go with.

We've got small shops like these here in New Zealand (in the neighbourhoods) - you basically get bread, milk, the news paper, potato chips and lollies. It's called a dairy. I think the school kids are their biggest clients here as well :) Great POV and I like the sepia tones
