"evening & brightness"

Nothing creative, nothing particularly meaningful, nothing asthetically superb either... Yet, I keep photographing these neon signs just because I am drawn to this strange brightness of the evening.

Portland Street, Mongkok Street, Hong Kong

"6 nights & 6 days with the X100" This is a series of urban landscapes of Hong Kong taken with a sample Fujifilm X100 between 12 and 18 February 2011. As always, no pixel peeping, no professional tests, no detailed comparison... just trying to see how this new machine could help me portray the streets and landscapes of my city. Well it has amazed me.:-)

I do not regard myself as a photographer. I'm an ordinary man but extraordinarily obsessed with capturing all the memorable scenes that I encounter in my everyday life. It's like an excited traveller craving to record his memorable journey in a memorable way, but in my case, it's the journey of my life ... If I can record my encounters in such a way that they leave an image on the mind of myself and other viewers, it's a tremendous joy and some accomplishment...
In terms of photography, I'm trying to preserve the moments as my eyes see "something" and my heart feels it too. As such, I seldom feel interested in planned, arranged or manipulated photographs...

Hi Hugo,

Engineering sample X-100?

Wish I can afford a X-100. Spent too much money in buying film cameras and lenses already.

Busy playing with a Fujifilm DL Super Mini Zoom (a second hand bargain) and my friend just gave me a Ricoh GR1s, another classic camera.

@Peter: Nightclubs, love hotels... and tailor, and pawn shops!:-) It's a sample pre-production copy that HK Fuji let me play with - they know I'm a crazy guy shooting everything on the street! LOL.:-)))

I have said, on more than one occasion, that the markets are one of my favorite things about Hong Kong. The wonderful lights, at night, are another of my favorite things. I think you've done an excellent job capturing these lights.

The exif says iso 640, but I thought this camera only had full stops. Could it be that it's actually at 6400?

@Ben: Definitely iso 640 - the camera is capable of doing this when "auto ISO mode" is selected. Thanks for asking.

I missed this one yesterday Hugo - and how exciting! The X100!!!
I had a look at your PBase gallery also - and from what I can see this camera is a little gem. The detail, DR and colours look great. But the machine itself must make you feel like a better photographer already :-)

The detail you are grabbing in the shadows absolutely astounds me. It's like a camera with built in HDR ;) This is a wonderfully lighted shot.
