The jungle at night...

I do not regard myself as a photographer. I'm an ordinary man but extraordinarily obsessed with capturing all the memorable scenes that I encounter in my everyday life. It's like an excited traveller craving to record his memorable journey in a memorable way, but in my case, it's the journey of my life ... If I can record my encounters in such a way that they leave an image on the mind of myself and other viewers, it's a tremendous joy and some accomplishment...
In terms of photography, I'm trying to preserve the moments as my eyes see "something" and my heart feels it too. As such, I seldom feel interested in planned, arranged or manipulated photographs...

k@ from Paris, France

That light diagonally "opening" the heart of this image and drawing a track in another direction, opposed to the verticality of the buildings, is stupendous, Hugo. And look at all those windows like eyes, knowing there are people going with their own lives, happy, unhappy, behind each window... Just fascinating ! You have a very nice w-e, my dear*

Actually, reminds me Berenice Abbott "nightviews" of NYC, you can google them or see this one : superb classic, bravo to you too ! ;)

10 Apr 2010 12:01pm

@k@: Can't tell you how gratified I am to know this reminded you of the wonderful pic of Berenice Abbott! You've made my day... Thank you k@!!! Though this shot was not actually inspired by hers the moment I took it, Abbott is definitely among the masters (HCB, Eugene Smith, Andre Kertesz, Josef Sudek, Bill Brandt, etc.) whose striking photography and inspiring words have always been the driving force behind my shooting all these years - how much I hope I would be able to document the vanishing streets, places and life of my city in the best impressive way!
Why and how photographing became such a passion in the first place, I really don't know... 'I took to photography like a duck to water. I never wanted to do anything else. Excitement about the subject is the voltage which pushes me over the mountain of drudgery necessary to produce the final photograph.' -Berenice Abbott

Yikes - you've kicked in my vertigo, Hugo - and night is no longer the only thing that is 'falling'. A very powerful image with dramatic use of the angles and good, yet understated light. Excellent.

For some this would be a futuristic image, where people live elevated halfway in the sky. For us it's just high-rise blocks of flats. Maybe our present is the future :0 Gulp.! It's an excellent night time view of the city, superb quality Hugo.

The future is now, and that which rises out of the ashes of life are towers of dispair and solitude. Not quite true, but a fantastic perspective of one of the worlds most exciting cities. A great photo Hugo. I also really like the 'alternative view'!

Hugo it's a terrific view, great night shot of the jungle.
An important spanish poet said in 1929, arriving to NY: "New York, geometry and anguish" (García Lorca).
But these urban views are also fascinant!
