Tianzifang, Tai Kang Road, Shanghai

Some pics from my recent business trip to Shanghai... Though it's been a terribly tight schedule, so glad that I didn't leave this wonderful and photogenic city entirely empty-handed.:-)

FUJIFILM FinePix F200EXR 1/180 second F/3.3 ISO 100 7 mm

I do not regard myself as a photographer. I'm an ordinary man but extraordinarily obsessed with capturing all the memorable scenes that I encounter in my everyday life. It's like an excited traveller craving to record his memorable journey in a memorable way, but in my case, it's the journey of my life ... If I can record my encounters in such a way that they leave an image on the mind of myself and other viewers, it's a tremendous joy and some accomplishment...
In terms of photography, I'm trying to preserve the moments as my eyes see "something" and my heart feels it too. As such, I seldom feel interested in planned, arranged or manipulated photographs...

Magda from Vancouver, Canada

8 Jun 2010 7:40am

@Anna.C: Oops, I forgot to mention that it's the work of Mr Chen Rui Yuan in the backdrop... Thanks Anna, I really look forward to another (my third) exhibition... maybe early next year?:-)

k@ from Paris, France

I especially enjoy the various directions of the eyes in this image, man, kid, monk, each one looks in his own direction and yet they are part of the same world, fiction & reality mixed up. They look like father and kids waiting for Mom return... Love the interplay and the story it contains ! Plus the natural elegance, both of the guy & of your style, HugO*

@k@: "They look like father and kids waiting for Mom return..." Can't tell you how I love your story... makes my day to read each and every word of yours! Thank you thank you so much k@!:-)))

Good composition, Hugo. However, the picture doesn't end at the frame, it goes further keeping us to imagine what they are looking at.

As usual, you are superb at capturing the range of photographic depths and the interactions between the representational and the real and causing us to ponder them. Well done.

Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United States

Four subjects jump out in this image - all of them disassociated - captured cohesively from different dimensions of place and time - and yet fitting together in a harmonious composition. You should be especially pleased with this image, Hugo - it is first class. Five stars.
