"the night of sensations"

"The City by night" (i)
The same concrete jungle, the same busy traffic, the same choking air... the same city. Yet magically and suddenly it becomes an enchantment to me when evening falls and lights are on.:-)

Pedder Street, Central, Hong Kong

"Hugo, your pics are awesome but a bit dismal... is Hong Kong that depressing?" A question that has always got me stuck. So, maybe as my response, I decide to compile a series to show the beautiful (bright?) side of my city... nothing special or profound, just some moments when it looks charming to me.:-)

I do not regard myself as a photographer. I'm an ordinary man but extraordinarily obsessed with capturing all the memorable scenes that I encounter in my everyday life. It's like an excited traveller craving to record his memorable journey in a memorable way, but in my case, it's the journey of my life ... If I can record my encounters in such a way that they leave an image on the mind of myself and other viewers, it's a tremendous joy and some accomplishment...
In terms of photography, I'm trying to preserve the moments as my eyes see "something" and my heart feels it too. As such, I seldom feel interested in planned, arranged or manipulated photographs...

Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, Spain

I don't feel your city so depressing as you tell that someone says, not at all.
I like the constrasts you show in photos like this, a great photo. I prefer the other side of the city, though!

I love the other side too, not depressing for me at all but rich with history like a Time Box, but cool we're able to visit the more glittering side here, looks like Broadway, NYC ! All your nights are of sensation, anyway, Hugo and we're all agree here, oh sure ;)

The dynamic angle is great Hugo, and the illumination of the city and traffic is excellent.

Somehow the "darker" side of Hong Kong attracts me more but I never feel this city as a depressing place. May be I should try to capture its vibrant sides more as you do. In any case, my wife commented my photos as too "dark" and guess it's time to try more varieties.

Amazing capture at night. Very interesting to see "all sides" of Hong Kong. Whatever motive or theme, your pictures are always brilliant and very interesting.

WOW this is such a fantastic shot, Having visited there all be it more than 20 years ago I remember the bright lights and frantic traffic, I loved my time there, and personally i dont see any of your posts showing dismal shots of Hong Kong the back streets and slice of life shots of the city you post where as much a part of the charm of the place and why I loved my 3 weeks there as the bright lights and nightlife there

Another one! Clearly I've been busy. Your choice of the title and the use of the advertisement here is excellent. The fact that you use the idea of sensation and then tilt the camera in this manner is perfectly conceived. We are thrown off balance, taken from our usual station, and left to our sensations. The sensations of your beautiful light in the very least.
