the city by night (ii)

Posted by hugo poon (hong kong, Hong Kong) on 22 October 2010 in Architecture and Portfolio.

Just another office building in Central, and I haven't noticed that it's such a charm... not until this night.:-)

Chater House, Chater Road, Central, Hong Kong

PS. A little series of the moments that the city (concrete jungle) magically and suddenly becomes an enchantment to me - when evening falls and lights are on.:-)

I do not regard myself as a photographer. I'm an ordinary man but extraordinarily obsessed with capturing all the memorable scenes that I encounter in my everyday life. It's like an excited traveller craving to record his memorable journey in a memorable way, but in my case, it's the journey of my life ... If I can record my encounters in such a way that they leave an image on the mind of myself and other viewers, it's a tremendous joy and some accomplishment...
In terms of photography, I'm trying to preserve the moments as my eyes see "something" and my heart feels it too. As such, I seldom feel interested in planned, arranged or manipulated photographs...

It is nice the way you frame it. It becomes like a piece of art.

One wonders what services this office provides : ] best...jf

@ordinaryimages: Good question Jerry! Functionally, this Chater House is holding more or less 5000 elites inside it, keeping them busy 10 hours (at least) everyday, exhausting them and giving them the excuse to fool around in the weekend... Have a nice weekend my friend!:-)

Michael from Chester, United Kingdom

A solid composition Hugo, and illuminated at the right spot. Very cool.

I love the oh-so delicate harmony of lines & shapes your superb choice of angle offers here, Hugo, it's tremendously elegant, and not only due to the beautiful model image (seems to me she's the great actress Julianne Moore ?) but to the almost tender (em)brace of the lines from the lower left (ah that golden elbow...) to the narrow corridor of sky in-between buildings on the upper right passing by the more square superbly designed parts of the central offices building. And of course your fab personal light & the soft & classy tones add to the whole feel of modern beauty - since your clever framing makes us realize the masterpieces that are some of our architectural contemporary "thoughts". Bravo maestr°_^

@k@: Oh great eye k@! Yes, that's Julianne Moore as she poses for Bulgari... I must admit that her face does stop me in my tracks!:-)

I missed this image! Fantastic angle here. It's from this angle that the advertisement becomes distorted enough to take on an interesting abstraction, which detracts from the power of that advertisement and takes you to the functionality of the building. You just have gorgeous light and colors here. I love it!
