"clarion call"

Posted by

I was invited to the launch of the X100... Found a nice mirror on the wall and had fun with it!:-)

PS. The tattoo show in the previous pic was quite an unexpected part of the launch event.:-)

FUJIFILM FinePix X100 1/30 second F/4.0 ISO 2500 23 mm

I do not regard myself as a photographer. I'm an ordinary man but extraordinarily obsessed with capturing all the memorable scenes that I encounter in my everyday life. It's like an excited traveller craving to record his memorable journey in a memorable way, but in my case, it's the journey of my life ... If I can record my encounters in such a way that they leave an image on the mind of myself and other viewers, it's a tremendous joy and some accomplishment...
In terms of photography, I'm trying to preserve the moments as my eyes see "something" and my heart feels it too. As such, I seldom feel interested in planned, arranged or manipulated photographs...

Oh excellent compo, i drink it with my eyes like a fine cocktail, Hugo ! Love that : first you (hello my friend !), that super camera that gives you a HCB look (yes-yes ;), the man in the conference behind and the super well framed subject written on the left, that is such a great tribute you do to your lil' jewel camera ! I love that image, a classic. Bravo ! I'm not on Am3 this week-end but wanted to stop by here, a pure delight !

Eyebrow at the ready... and... (I was going to say 'snap' but then I remembered the X100 makes no noise when taking photos). :-)

Well - finally a 'Hugo Poon Image' that I can level some serious criticism at. You are teasing us. Move that wonderful camera over a little bit and reveal yourself my friend. Your fan club is waiting! (By the way - if those folks at Fuji are looking for some U.S. photographers to help launch their X100 over here - they have in me an oh, so willing volunteer)

A very distinguished shot Hugo, and you have kept a respectable distance by your reflection slightly out of focus - nice touch. The x100 looks very much like an old Leica rangefinder.

An excellent self-portrait, Hugo. The X100 will get here, eventually.

Wonderful self portrait, as good as it gets. Congratulations on being invited to the launch, I can not think of a finer representative for what looks like a great reinvention of a classic range finder.

@k@: Dear k@ and friends, can't tell you what a tough Monday (day and night) I've been through and what a wonderful treat it is to read these lovely warm words of yours! I'm touched! My heartfelt thanks!

However, I feel a strong need to clarify something... the more I enjoy the new x100, the more I feel the need to! I have never hidden my liking for various Fuji cameras. First it's an F10, a dumb yet interestingly also a powerful machine, that has got me into this photography thing in 2005 and brought me tremedous fun and satisfaction. Adding to this, HK Fuji, absolutely to my surprise, approached me in 2006 just to seek my feedback so as to improve their cameras! I have never expected they would come to someone as amateurish as me! From then onward, we're really like friends... How I treasure such a lovely relationship, friendly and truthful, and nothing commecial or monetary whatsoever! I insisted to and they let me pay for all cameras I got from them.:-) What I'm trying to say is I don't think I am "impartial", right or wrong... how would one be dispassionate to a friend that one likes? When they handed me a pre-production x100 to test use, I felt like being invited by a good friend to try a meal she's prepared with her heart... The x100 is not the smartest or even flawless but to me it's producing amazing results once its limitations are overcome!

All these said, I hope my enthusiasm is not affecting your judgement. When you have a chance to try it out, it's most important to see whether it suits your shooting style.

Have a beautiful week and happy shooting!!!:-)

Thanks a lot Hugo, i get what you mean utterly and, remember ? i wrote you the first time you posted a photo with your x-100 that i didn't really see the difference since for me it's the photographer first who makes the pictures whatever the camera in your hands. Yet, this x-100 seems ideal as a light one to balance my heavy Nikon, from time to time, and i'd love to be able to test, or buy one hopefully. We'll see. And your honesty in your experience with Fuji, not accepting the present of the camera but buying them all it's another proof of how true you are, something your images show on a daily basis. Thanks again for your words & see you, dear*
