"road show" ... on the bus (i)

Better view the Larger.

Any "show" will be enjoyable after a long day...

Nathan Road, Mongkok, Hong Kong

FUJIFILM X-Pro1 1/60 second F/2.0 ISO 800 53 mm (35mm equiv.)

I do not regard myself as a photographer. I'm an ordinary man but extraordinarily obsessed with capturing all the memorable scenes that I encounter in my everyday life. It's like an excited traveller craving to record his memorable journey in a memorable way, but in my case, it's the journey of my life ... If I can record my encounters in such a way that they leave an image on the mind of myself and other viewers, it's a tremendous joy and some accomplishment...
In terms of photography, I'm trying to preserve the moments as my eyes see "something" and my heart feels it too. As such, I seldom feel interested in planned, arranged or manipulated photographs...

Ahhh . . riding double-deckers and running '50mm' lenses . . those were the days !

24 Apr 2012 7:54am

@Ronnie 2¢: Yes, those were the days... I'll never forget how I and my two brothers had to share the same cam and one single lens! But that was fun!:-)

Gérard Beullac from Paris, France

Excellent catch of a typical instant of a modern city life.
I love this grey/green ambiance.
A result of WB settings?

I do not know what camera lens you are using, but this image has lots of charm!
But ... But ... There is no driver! Ahhhhhh! Help! :)

What a great idea, mass transit entertainment! And what a fabulous image, with such wonderfully controlled selective focus to lead our eyes to the main subject. Brilliant as always Hugo :^)

Nice, trying out some of the Fuji technology and have laid my Nikon down for a while:)

Interesting that the passengers are for the most part ignoring the "feature" ; ] Nice rendering at f/2 best…jf

Ian Smith from London, United Kingdom

So Hugo - not keeping the peace here or something? Everybody else sits to the left allowing future passengers a seat... :-) Just kidding, it's another great documentary of HK life. I remember spending many an hour on these busses between Central and the NT watching the same displays.

MX from Melbourne, Australia

The photo makes me feel nostalgic: when I first arrived in HK in 2006, I was a complete stranger to this city, and I used to watch the Road Show on a daily basis, noticing the passage of time from 夏 to 冬 ...

24 Apr 2012 10:45pm

@MX: Hope this brings only happy memories to you!:-)

Ralph Jones from Detroit, United States

Love the depth of field Hugo!

25 Apr 2012 12:48am

Nitin from Shanghai, China

Excellent picture Hugo - ironic and superb timing. This literally is a show on the road. The TV screen is not the one inside the bus but the actual sight through the window especially the wind shield! Great stuff and super story telling!

A captive audience, great for advertisers. An interesting image, Hugo.

I love the depth of field in this photo, as well as the line of sight created by the bus seats. Both of them take my eye right through the middle of the photo. Well done.

Great point view and play with dof. Amusing to see that people choose the left place when they travel alone... :-)
