the "portland signs"

Hotels, night clubs, karaoke, pharmacy, pawn shops, tailor... A glimpse of Mongkok (i)

Another angle to view these chaotic and dizzying signs - here.

One late Afternoon, Portland Street, Mongkok, Hong Kong

Mongkok, in Chinese, means the "busy and prosperous corner". 'It's characterized by a mixture of old and new multi-story buildings and according to Guinness World Records, Mong Kok has the highest population density in the world (130,000 per km2).' Wikipedia

I do not regard myself as a photographer. I'm an ordinary man but extraordinarily obsessed with capturing all the memorable scenes that I encounter in my everyday life. It's like an excited traveller craving to record his memorable journey in a memorable way, but in my case, it's the journey of my life ... If I can record my encounters in such a way that they leave an image on the mind of myself and other viewers, it's a tremendous joy and some accomplishment...
In terms of photography, I'm trying to preserve the moments as my eyes see "something" and my heart feels it too. As such, I seldom feel interested in planned, arranged or manipulated photographs...

António Pires from Lisbon, Portugal

Undoubtedly Hong Kong.

You choose an interesting angle.
There is no way for escaping from all these signals.

The tilt is an excellent way to present such a wonderful and eye candy colorful scene. The white balance is fantastic. A pleasure to behold.

When I'm in front of all these street signs, I always wonder if we see them really! Finally, it provides an array of colors that we no longer distinguish the real function, but it becomes bright decor!

I love the vibrant colours which reflect the vibrancy of the life there. It looks better with this tilt and compact composition when compared against the other linked view.

I love Mongkok - it's truly a spectacle at night. This brings back so many memories of the bustle, the smells, and the taste of some great food. Have a good one!

Superb lights and composition, as always..!! Particularly for this scene, I feel dizzy when seeing all the neon up here, trying to imagine if all the neon turning off, i can only see a grey, old building...this is to some extents a bluffing part of the city life...

A face of HK, to which you have introduced most of us in years past, which never bores me. That's probably why, when visiting HK, I looked for entirely different views (like those in the Bank of China Tower I posted recently here). Too many "Hugo's shots" in my viewfinder!
