2ifc and a stormy day

Posted by hugo poon (hong kong, Hong Kong) on 25 June 2012 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

And in a serene evening, I caught it "catching the plane".:-)

2ifc, Central, Hong Kong

I do not regard myself as a photographer. I'm an ordinary man but extraordinarily obsessed with capturing all the memorable scenes that I encounter in my everyday life. It's like an excited traveller craving to record his memorable journey in a memorable way, but in my case, it's the journey of my life ... If I can record my encounters in such a way that they leave an image on the mind of myself and other viewers, it's a tremendous joy and some accomplishment...
In terms of photography, I'm trying to preserve the moments as my eyes see "something" and my heart feels it too. As such, I seldom feel interested in planned, arranged or manipulated photographs...

très belle idée et réalisation.

A powerful shot... What a extraordinary building. Not sure I'd feel safe in it on a 'stormy' day.
My mind reels at the size of it....it must hold whole little cities of people within it. (This photo caused me to spend some time with Google, reading about the building(s). Thanks !!

I share Dulcie's unease with this building . . perhaps because it looks so alone.

Impressive atmosphere! Superb point of view! Excellent night shot! Have a nice week, Hugo!

25 Jun 2012 7:48am

@mo.langel: Not a night shot Mo... I know it's hard to imagine but it's actually 11:00 am in the morning and I haven't tried to darken it, not a tad!!!

Gérard Beullac from Paris, France

Ah yes terrific !. I love how the tower is defying the storm thanks to its size: not the same weather between the top and the bottom !

Francisco Romero from Carbajal de la Legua, Spain

Fantastic capture. The mood, the light, the detail, and the majestic building combine to make a superb image. And no less splendid image the one in your link.

This is one of those exceptional images that keeps calling you back to look again. Perfect alignment and powerful atmospheric conditions, but... I would be terrified living up there.

Tremendous mood shot Hugo, I keep wanting to chop the bottom away to make it even more minimalistic in my mind.

k@ from Paris, France

I'm fascinated by this lack of light that is light anyway, and such a terrific one, and you say you didn't change anything here to make it more dramatic ? Gorgeous sci-fi feel, scary & beautiful, another dimension, giant one, and i feel quite mesmerized by this silver (up) & gold (down) harmony in the apocalyptic way. Chaos & balance. Here we are again with top expressive duets of vivid contradictions so much in subtle pairing. A big WOW (that is when my eyes are becoming bigger than my mouth ;) Have a nice week, maestro*

25 Jun 2012 7:31pm

@k@: A big WOW... that's exactly how I felt when this sudden darkness caught me by surprise! Really scary my dear - seemed like the sky was falling and the world coming to an end! Yet equally surprising was that this didn't last long. It's only a matter of minutes that rain started pouring and it turned bright again...

Alun from cheshire, United Kingdom

Wow, amazing to see

High drama for my favorite building. A great shot as well as the plane shot. I got this plane shot.

Doug Hickok from Charleston, South Carolina, United States

K has a lot to say that I agree with here Hugo... I love the dark atmosphere, the sense of dread, the mood of impending doom. These are the kinds of dramatic images I would love to find, but you made the extra effort to be in the right place at the right time, to make this gem of an image!

26 Jun 2012 10:33am

@Doug Hickok: Thank you Doug! I'm lucky to be in the right place at the right time and with the right tool (not bad for an ISO2500 shot)!:-)

I like the mood Hugo, seem something big is coming...

27 Jun 2012 1:06pm

@Dexter Chee: How nice to hear from you! How about a soft charming mood to view this skyscraper?:-) "when the sun set"

Z from Shanghai, China

What a powerful composition, Hugo ! It is an original, different point of view, to the skyscrapers in the large cities...Superb !

Hugo compared with the "when the sun set", I prefer the stormy day version, its moody.... just love it!
