the vanishing colours...

One-third of the street was demolished, another third was already vacated...

Better view the Larger.

Taking a closer look at the "sign"

Landale Street, Wanchai, Hong Kong

I do not regard myself as a photographer. I'm an ordinary man but extraordinarily obsessed with capturing all the memorable scenes that I encounter in my everyday life. It's like an excited traveller craving to record his memorable journey in a memorable way, but in my case, it's the journey of my life ... If I can record my encounters in such a way that they leave an image on the mind of myself and other viewers, it's a tremendous joy and some accomplishment...
In terms of photography, I'm trying to preserve the moments as my eyes see "something" and my heart feels it too. As such, I seldom feel interested in planned, arranged or manipulated photographs...

With everything being demolished...where are we going to have Hugo Nights? best…jf

Splendid! You are a sensitive documenter.

Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

You have an excellent way of painting the night colours of Hong Kong, I'm very interested in what that small knot of men is doing on the left - a late night game of cards?

2 Nov 2012 8:29am

@Curly: Chess game.:-) This has (had) been one most popular "nightlife' for grassroots in traditional neighbourhood... Here's an old shot of this fascinating game! Thank you Curly!

Nitin from Shanghai, China

As always an incredible street shot. The night time atmosphere here is ingenuinely captured, as can be done by no one else but you Hugo! I just returned for a long 3 week trip to Central Am Hugo. Hope all good with you. Cheers!

Arr Day from montréal, Canada

Such bright colors in the darkness, like jewels in a box.
The subject is the guy leaning against the railings, but eventually the eye is drawn to the building facades, acorss the street. You manage to show a large view and retain all the intimacy. May I ask where / how you learned to frame like this ?

2 Nov 2012 11:48am

@Arr Day: Thanks so much for the wonderful words! "You manage to show a large view and retain all the intimacy." Makes my day to read this! But your question does get me... I don't know exactly but this was where and when I started this "photography thing" - one Sunday night 2005. Since then, I have been enjoying seeing and feeling intensely the life around me and trying to capture that very moment when the various elements come together in a way that excites and pleases my mind's eye...

Luckily, this portion is left for your eye and camera to find. That car backing into the space really catches the eye.

Delighted to enjoy your micro-cosmos that are uniquely distinctive. Everybody minding their own business but at the same time bathing in a superbly captured light. The eyes have a feast to explore!

The light you capture is always exquisite. The difference between the two sides of the street is poignant, especially in the reflection caught in the top left windows of the top right signs. Excellent as always!
