"contemplation" ... (i)

I do not regard myself as a photographer. I'm an ordinary man but extraordinarily obsessed with capturing all the memorable scenes that I encounter in my everyday life. It's like an excited traveller craving to record his memorable journey in a memorable way, but in my case, it's the journey of my life ... If I can record my encounters in such a way that they leave an image on the mind of myself and other viewers, it's a tremendous joy and some accomplishment...
In terms of photography, I'm trying to preserve the moments as my eyes see "something" and my heart feels it too. As such, I seldom feel interested in planned, arranged or manipulated photographs...

Valérie Simonnet from paris, France

Incredible picture. Everything so odd and so well fitted together even the " to let", congratulations.

27 Dec 2012 8:02am

@Valérie Simonnet: Yes everything so odd! I've been watching these two young men for a while but couldn't figure out what's on their mind.:-)

Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

Just finding these two sitting there so high up must have been an exciting (and tense) moment Hugo. The picture suggests a huge risk taking high above the streets late into the night. The mix of high illumination and darkened areas is excellent as the camera renders so much detail in both of them.
Certainly a brilliant rose of a picture :-)

27 Dec 2012 8:30am

@Curly: Thank you Curly! I would later post a wider shot of this interesting scene.:-)

Eric Laforgue from Ivry sur Seine, France

Excellent, tes prises de vue sont très cinématographiques et j'aime cela.

k@ from Paris, France

Aww, your magic again operates the best way in your compo and the way your eye selected the ideal frame, love how the men sit, their body language & wait up the european woman sat on the giant billboard burnt in highlight (of their dream, i suspect ;) Wonderful story you tell here in a deeply rich silent.

27 Dec 2012 9:11am

@k@: You know what, it's your pic today that reminded me (and inspired) me to post this shot! (I squeezed some time between two meetings to post this one, ha ha!) Just enjoy yours, less is shown but more is being told!:-)

Eric C. from Ivry sur Seine, France

Another magical live scene. You find and frame untold stories of the viewer's mind. Great stuff, Hugo!

27 Dec 2012 10:54am

@Ian Smith: Thank you Ian! I was so lucky to be able to spot this! But the light is really tricky... thanks to the superb dynamic range performance of the cam, the mood came out fine!:-)

RORO from LE HAVRE, France

Such a great association, I love the strange mood here !

Basile Pesso from France

Very beautiful way of being on the top of their building, with a very good contrast, and also a semantic contrast, as in the picture of Eric Chatron two days ago.

29 Dec 2012 1:06pm

Hugh from Chester, United Kingdom

I love to see that which I'm not supposed to see. The view from a railway train of the backs of houses and factories or back stage at the theater.
The juxtaposition of the two lads in your shot, on the roof top where they think they are unobserved while they look down. From where they are they're unable to see that the girl in the poster is apparently seeing them. And you are seeing all of it. So the secret observers are in fact the observed! Then there's all that paraphernalia on the roof top, in the blue black light of the night.
Great shot Hugo!

Olivier Paillet from toulouse, France

Beautiful catch !!!

31 Dec 2012 10:26am

Arr Day from Montreal, Canada

A great shot, Hugo !
The main subject standing in the shades, I really enjoy that. Lively compo, too.
Isn't it a great pleasure, for a photographer, to reach a place that usually keeps away from sight ?

31 Dec 2012 2:16pm

Doug Hickok from Charleston, South Carolina, United States

The concept of light and darkness is certainly worth contemplating, as illustrated in this most brilliant image!

31 Dec 2012 9:11pm

Gérard Beullac from Paris, France

Are they dreaming they will offer a Brilliant Rose to their girlfriends, one of these days?
The scene is beautiful and very inspiring, you managed the capture with your usual sense of perfection in the management of the light, and not only that !
