"long hours"

Posted by hugo poon (hong kong, Hong Kong) on 7 March 2013 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

A caretaker of an old pre-war building...

Same place, the other night, different people... "happy hour"

Elgin Street, Hong Kong

I do not regard myself as a photographer. I'm an ordinary man but extraordinarily obsessed with capturing all the memorable scenes that I encounter in my everyday life. It's like an excited traveller craving to record his memorable journey in a memorable way, but in my case, it's the journey of my life ... If I can record my encounters in such a way that they leave an image on the mind of myself and other viewers, it's a tremendous joy and some accomplishment...
In terms of photography, I'm trying to preserve the moments as my eyes see "something" and my heart feels it too. As such, I seldom feel interested in planned, arranged or manipulated photographs...

At the frontier with Beer-Land, he's so much alone & lost & sinking in his own inner world. Very emotional when you see how close in distance he is from the tourists on the upper stairlike platform of the cafe, and how far he is actually.
The very particular light of your night shots creates such a world. It's due to your talent to catch those unique scenes your eye notice, and to the very low light (not a lot of electricity in those streets compared to our big Parisian or NYC or wherever avenues) that reminds me (and i think of it for the first time today only) Istanbul's suburbian streets when i went back to my hotel and minded where i put my foot till I join the street where, just like here, people sipped their beers or red teas when some local folks stayed on their stools by theur shop or just like that, caught in their stopped or running brains. Thanks for this moving scene again that let emerges so many others for us all i bet. I buy your book as soon as you publish one, do not forget to tell me, master*

@k@: Seems so close yet so far... such apart worlds in the proximity!!! Have to admit I seldom think too much when I shoot; I just try to capture and re-create what I feel that very moment! Feel so gratified that the image actually moves you and reminds you of some wonderful memories! Thanks for all these beautiful words! Spelling mistakes? All I read are some precious warm words left by a real good friend!:-) You might be interested to see these: X-Photographers (i) and X-Photographers (ii).:-)

Gorgeous mood as always. There is such a brilliant contrast between the characters here. The man under the light and then the others on the right and that makes the scene powerful. It's striking and very well taken.
