"rain is making the days short and the nights long."

yes, it's a long and rainy night...

FUJIFILM X-E1 1/52 second F/1.4 ISO 800 53 mm (35mm equiv.)

I do not regard myself as a photographer. I'm an ordinary man but extraordinarily obsessed with capturing all the memorable scenes that I encounter in my everyday life. It's like an excited traveller craving to record his memorable journey in a memorable way, but in my case, it's the journey of my life ... If I can record my encounters in such a way that they leave an image on the mind of myself and other viewers, it's a tremendous joy and some accomplishment...
In terms of photography, I'm trying to preserve the moments as my eyes see "something" and my heart feels it too. As such, I seldom feel interested in planned, arranged or manipulated photographs...

Gérard Beullac from Paris, France

Gloomy night.

Ludo from Charenton-le-Pont, France

Beautiful framing. Great opposition between warm and cold tones.

17 May 2013 7:07am

Veronique from France-and-, Switzerland

....not my favorite of yours ;-) It had to happen one day !

17 May 2013 7:25am

@Veronique: What impresses my "self" might not impress that of the others... This is not the first time.:-)

Tede from Aubenas 07, France

Splendide lumière, superbes reflets. Magnifique ambiance. bonne journée.

Christian Richer from Le Havre, France

Hot and cold, light and shadow ... As each of us!

17 May 2013 7:54am

Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

Unusually warm colour temperature for one of your shots Hugo, yet it suits the scene nicely. Also relatively unusual to find you shooting in the less "extreme" ranges of iso settings.
Ah finally I see the balance between warm and cool on left and right.
Hope you had your wellies on, that's a lot of water pooling up on the paving!

17 May 2013 8:53am

Eric C. from Un peu partout, France

Great framing & mood !

17 May 2013 10:22am

J.R. from Urasoe City, Japan

Wet scene, I can see the rain falling to the left side or at least what looks like rain:)

17 May 2013 11:52am

Damien from Plérin, France

Great POV.

Elaine Hancock from Rockville, United States

Beautiful image. The light against the white wall really accents the stair railing. I love the contrast of the railing and the stone wall underneath. The rain and the light creates a wonderful mood.

Basile Pesso from Barcelona, Spain

Very interesting composition.

17 May 2013 9:30pm

Kate from EXETER, United Kingdom

It's a wonderful frame, I hope the weather improves soon for you Hugo even though it makes for great photos.

17 May 2013 10:12pm

Abena from Illinois, United States

I think this is gorgeous, the frame is simple and as usual there's that lovely calm and a play with yellow and blue light, but what I love is that word 'perseverance.' At first I didn't notice it but the way it's at the top almost haunts me, like a voice telling me to persevere...fantastic Hugo!

17 May 2013 10:14pm

@Abena: Thanks so much for reading and feeling this... Normally I'd like a street capture more because of some momentary and incidental elements (a passerby, a cat...) but here I like this scene more because there's nothing - just me and the place and the rain of the long night!

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

A pretty rainy night image. I like the strong lines of the staircase.

17 May 2013 11:55pm

Pavan Kaul from Mumbai, India

Such a beautiful, mysterious atmosphere...but than no less can be expected from the 'master' of night photography himself! I love it Hugo!

Carpe Diem from Tehran, Iran

It's really hard to capture a great photo in the rain and of course at the dark...
You just did it as best as possible!
The backside, just over there left, it's really makes me feel great!
Welldone dear.

Sue-Ann from Quebec, Canada

superb ambiance, not really a warm on though...

18 May 2013 3:17pm

k@ from Paris, France

That stairs has the design of a roll of film - a movie you are in, colors are so subtle, and the presence of the night quite absorbing. I love to feel you nearby, the single presence here but inhabitating the void. Thought-provoking.

18 May 2013 6:05pm

Arr Day from Montreal, Canada

Or Duality. Black and White, Blue and Red. but Perseverence suits it better, it is all the stillness of the scene.

22 May 2013 12:32am
